Military coup attempt in Turkey

Late Friday, July 15, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said the attempt of a military coup was underway.

At the same time, the media reported that Chief of the Turkish General Staff was taken hostage and held in the Ministry building in Ankara.

In turn, President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan appealed to the nation via a video link from a mobile phone.

Turkish state television announced the introduction of martial law and a curfew across the country.

Airports in Turkey were reported to be closed up.

Reports also came that the popular social network services like Facebook, Twitter and Youtube were unavailable.
