Baloha calls on to sack Ministers from government’s economic bloc

The Chief of Staff blames govt for drawbacks

President’s Chief of Staff Victor Baloha claims that serious problems in economics, encountered by the country in the first quarter of the current year, raise the urgent question about the political responsibility of the government of Yulia Tymoshenko for its inability to adequately respond to economic challenges.

According to the President`s press-office, V.Baloha believes that every month of work of the government is marked with serious economical drawbacks. In particular, he noted that the arrears for the consumed gas accumulated in January, the crisis in the relations with Russia was regulated in February only after President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko interfered, the growth of inflation became evident in March.

“The response of the Cabinet of Ministers to negative economic tendencies was slowly, probably, due to the influence of calming down statements by Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. The governmental officials began to recognize the economical difficulties very unwillingly, only after the figures at price tags began to grow every day”, V.Baloha.

He recalled that the President has already many times pointed to the unfavorable factors, and the influence exerted by the situation at world energy and financial markets upon the native economics. However, according to V.Baloha, the government was too self-confident and did not pay attention to the President’s words. Moreover, some government’s actions even strengthened the influence of negative processes.

According to the Chief of Staff, “the government’s statements about total overcoming the inflation in 5-6 months look to optimistic and must be honestly called populist. Besides, the government applied administrative intermingling, hand regulation of market processes, which only feeds ban inflation forecasts”.

The President’s Chief of Staff stresses that the government must shoulder total responsibility for the development of problem phenomena in the native economics.

According to V.Baloha, the dismissal of Ministers, responsible for the economics bloc of the government, must become one of steps towards this direction.
