"This will never be redundant. For me this is a big step because I'm learning how to assemble a Kalashnikov. This is a lot for me," says Olha, one of the participants.

The training is similar to the one which actual military personnel complete. However, the chief instructor stresses that the cadets will not be sent out into the field, according to Ukraine Today.

"They still don't know the four golden rules of how to handle weapons. They still lack the understanding of aiming and how to handle oneself on the battlefield," says the instructor.

A spokesman for Ukraine's armed forces said that at the end of last year as an emergency measure close to 100 women were recruited for army service.
