Owners of cars with foreign registration plates have been blocking several streets in the center of Kyiv since Wednesday morning, November 7, demanding affordable customs clearance rates for their cars.

Hundreds of cars with foreign registration have been already parked near the building of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament. Truck drivers are going to block Peremohy Avenue near the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Ukrainian TV news service TSN.

Drivers in Kyiv are advised to avoid the city center since huge traffic jams are expected.

The leaders of the AutoEuroSyla organization, who are the organizers of the rally, have apologized to all those who may face inconvenience. The rally will continue today and tomorrow. The organizers said the event would gather owners of cars with foreign registration from all over Ukraine.

On Thursday, Ukrainian lawmakers should consider the law on customs clearance in the second reading. The Verkhovna Rada offers to provide a 50% discount on customs clearance of such cars. The rate is proposed to be reduced to 25% for customs clearance within the following 30 days.
