LGBTI activists stage Pride Parade in Odesa

The LGBTI Pride Parade took place in the center of Odesa as part of the OdesaPride 2016 queer culture festival.  Over 50 people participated in the event, police said.

Police officers maintained law and order during the LGBTI march. More than 700 police officers were involved.

A group of unidentified people tried to attack the participants in the event. Law enforcers quickly blocked them, having cordoned them off in a circle. Some were handcuffed.

Odesa's District Administrative Court on August 11 ruled to ban the Pride Parade, having satisfied a claim filed by Odesa City Council. However, the organizers submitted a new request with a new venue.

In August 2015, a similar march was planned in Odesa, but the mayor's office refused to accept a request for the event, and the court banned that public event.
