Poroshenko speaks at general debate of 71st session of UN General Assembly

The United Nations General Assembly is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations and the only one in which all member nations have equal representation.

Voting in the General Assembly on important questions, namely, recommendations on peace and security, budgetary concerns and the election, admission, suspension or expulsion of members – is by a two-thirds majority of those present and voting. Other questions are decided by a straightforward majority.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly began its work at the UN Headquarters in New York September 13.

Chairman of the 71st Session was elected Fiji’s Peter Thomson.
