Dynamo Kyiv

Dynamo Kyiv have won the 2020 Ukrainian Super Cup, beating Shakhtar Donetsk 3:1.

Carlos de Pena opened the score for Dynamo on 20th, followed by Gerson Rodrigues who made it 2:0 on 31st. Junior Moraes scored for Shakhtar on 37th, while Fran Sol dominated the box with a confident header on 83rd, sealing the 3:1 win for Dynamo.

The Super Cup was played for the 17th time in Ukraine's history. This season, Shakhtar were the Ukrainian Premier League winners, while Dynamo Kyiv won the Ukrainian Cup, which allowed the two teams to qualify for the match.

Kyiv's Olympiyskiy arena hosted the game with no fans allowed on stands due to COVID-19-related restrictions.

Ukrainian Super Cup: history

  • The match is an annual season opener contested by the winners of the previous season's Ukrainian Premier League and Ukrainian Cup competitions or the League's runner-up if the National Cup was won also by League champions.
  • Before this game both teams met in the Ukrainian Super Cup twelve times, the first being back in 2004. Before this game out of the previous twelve Dynamo won four times and Shakhtar gained three wins. Five more games were tied and led to penalty shootout, three of which were won by Dynamo and two were won by Shakhtar.
  • Last year, the Super Cup was won by Dynamo Kyiv in the match against the Miners (2:1).
  • This year's Super Cup is the third in a row for Dynamo.
