The Swedish capital Stockholm on May 14, 2016, hosted the finals of the Eurovision-2016 international song contest.

This year, Ukraine was represented by Jamala, with the entry titled "1944," telling a story of deportation of the Crimean Tatar people in the middle of the last century from their native Crimean peninsula. The song is very personal for the singer, as she learned of this story from her own grandmother, who also suffered in those terrible events.

Jamala says that through the song she first wants to attract the world's attention to this issue.

It should be noted that the Ukrainian singer in the framework of Eurovision has already received an award for the best line in the song and the commentators' award for best performance.

There is a total 26 countries were represented in grand finals - 10 winners of the semi-finals, five representatives of the founding states, and the host country of the 2016 competition. Jamala performs under number 21.
