Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) march for peace in Kyiv

Participants in the controversial "Religious Procession for Peace in Ukraine," organized by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate), began to gather in the center of Kyiv on Wednesday morning.

Opponents of the march started arriving at the Yevropeiska Ploshcha (European Square) close to one of the destinations of the procession.

Kyiv authorities have tightened security measures, and 6,000 police officers and other law-enforcement troops are now engaged in maintaining law and order during the religious event.

Meanwhile, all the approach roads and passages leading to Yevropeiska Ploshcha are cordoned off by metal meshes and metal detectors have been installed on Khreschatyk Street near Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square).
