Rosh Hashanah celebration in Uman

A record high number of pilgrims – over 30,000 Hassids from 21 countries – came to the town of Uman in Cherkasy region to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, in the early hours of October 3.

Every year Uman gathers Jewish Hasidism followers, as Rebbe Nachman of Breslov (1772-1810) – the founder of Breslov, a branch of Hasidic Judaism, is buried in the town's Jewish cemetery. The Tzadik's tomb is one of the Hassids' most revered shrines, being a place of mass pilgrimage every year.
