Ukraine's Accounting Chamber in 2019 reveals cases of budget violation worth US$1.9 bln

The amount of violations revealed exceeds the figure reported in 2018 by 2.9 times.

Chairman of the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine Valeriy Patskan says the agency in 2019 revealed cases of budget violations and shortcomings worth UAH 50 billion (US$1.9 billion).

"The Accounting Chamber in 2019 checked 602 facilities and found out violations and shortcomings totaling almost UAH 50 billion," the agency's press service quoted Patskan as saying on May 6.

According to the official, the amount of violations revealed exceeds the figure reported in 2018 by 2.9 times.

In particular, violations of budget legislation accounted for 65% (UAH 32.1 billion/US$1.2 billion) of the violations identified, those related to inefficient management of funds and their use for almost 30% (UAH 14.7 billion/US$545.9 million), and violations and shortcomings in the administration of the national budget revenue for 6% (UAH 3 billion/US$222.8 million).

In addition, a UAH 38.8 billion (US$1.4 billion) shortfall of budget receipts was revealed as a result of control measures undertaken.

In total, the Chamber audited funds exceeding UAH 763 billion (US$28.3 billion), the press service said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine ranked 26th among 117 countries in the 2019 ranking compiled in accordance with the criteria of the International Budget Partnership's Open Budget Survey, having climbed by 13 positions from 2017.
