Cabinet takes step toward creating new Agrarian Policy Ministry

On December 17, the Verkhovna Rada supported the appointment of Roman Leshchenko as Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

The Cabinet of Ministers, Ukraine's government, at today's meeting canceled the decision according to which the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food had merged with the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture.

"The draft resolution proposes to cancel the decision to reorganize the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine by joining the Ministry for Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture. In fact, this gives rise to the creation of a new Agrarian Policy Ministry," said Economy Minister Ihor Petrashko.

  • In late August 2019, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food was merged with the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture into one structure.
  • On March 6, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced the intention of the newly elected Cabinet of Ministers to create a separate Agrarian Policy Ministry, as well as a separate position for a member of the government.
  • On December 17, the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, supported the appointment of incumbent head of to the State Service of Ukraine for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre Roman Leshchenko as Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
