Farmers harvest 63.5 mln tonnes of grain as of Dec 7 – economy ministry

The sowing campaign is coming to an end.

Ukrainian agrarians harvested 63.5 million tonnes of grain from 15.1 million hectares (ha) as of December 7, 2020, which was 99% of the target forecast.

That is according to the press service of the Ministry for Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture.

In particular, 27.9 million tonnes of maize was threshed from 5.2 million ha (99% of the target) and almost 2.8 million tonnes of soybeans from 1.3 million ha (99% of the target), the report said.

Read alsoEconomy ministry boasts of grain export successAlso, the harvesting of sunflower is almost completed, that is 13.1 million tonnes was gathered from 6.4 million ha, as well as 9.1 million tonnes of sugar beets from 215,500 ha.

Harvest of major crops, including technical ones, totaled 81.9 million tonnes, from an area of 24 million ha.

In addition, Ukraine is completing the sowing campaign. As of December 7, the agrarians had sown major winter crops on 8.06 million ha (98% of the target).

In particular, winter wheat was sown on 6.1 million ha (the target fulfilled), barley on 954,700 ha (101% of target), rye on 125,200 ha (94% of the target), and rapeseed on 881,100 ha (87% of the target),

Background

The Ministry for Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture revised downward the forecast for grain harvest in Ukraine in 2020 by 3 million tonnes, to 65 million tonnes. The yield of oilseeds is projected at 20 million tonnes.
