Ukraine and Belarus to deepen agricultural cooperation

The two ministers see good prospects and opportunities for bilateral trade.

Ukrainian Minister for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture Ihor Petrashko and Belarusian Minister of Agriculture and Food Ivan Krupko have agreed to deepen trade and economic cooperation between the countries in the agricultural sector.

"Cooperation in the agricultural sector is of particular importance in economic relations between our countries in terms of prospects and opportunities for trade and sectoral interaction. Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus maintain a constant dialogue in the field of biosecurity standards, which contributes to deepening mutually beneficial cooperation between the states," the Ukrainian ministry's press service quoted Petrashko as saying.

Petrashko and Krupko met in Kyiv, the press service said.

The Belarusian delegation arrived in Ukraine at the invitation to visit the large Ukrainian agro-industrial exhibition, AGRO 2020, hosted by Kyiv on August 11-12.

UNIAN memo. According to Ukraine's Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture, trade between Ukraine and Belarus exceeded US$1.5 billion in the first five months of 2020.

In the five months of 2020, turnover of agricultural products alone was over US$213 million.

In 2019, bilateral trade was estimated at about US$5.6 billion.
