Ukrainian beekeepers get almost US$8.5 mln in subsidies

Ukraine's Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture has paid out almost UAH 240 million, or US$8.43 million, in subsidies to Ukrainian beekeepers.

Deputy Minister Taras Vysotskyi shared the information on his personal blog on Facebook on December 24.

"Farmers were paid funds to receive subsidies for bees. Beekeepers received UAH 239.4 million for 1,197,201 beehive families," he wrote.

The funds were distributed among 23,430 recipients.

Also, Vysotskyi reported on the payment of over UAH 327 million, or US$ 11.5 million, in subsidies for the construction of livestock complexes. In 2020, Ukrainian livestock breeders built 28 new facilities, he said.

  • The national budget for 2020 foresees UAH 4 billion, or US$140.5 million, in a government bailout for agricultural producers.
  • Of this amount, UAH 1.2 billion, or US$42.2 million, is provided under a loan refund program; UAH 1 billion, or US$35.1 million, is to be allocated for partial compensation of the cost of agricultural equipment. Another UAH 1 billion, or US$35.1 million, is earmarked for support of livestock breeders and UAH 400 million, or US$14.05 million, for gardening and farming.
