Ukraine's Cabinet mulls return of snap inspections at enterprises

Warning companies of upcoming audits makes such inspections useless, the government believes.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine proposes that the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, remove restrictions imposed on the State Labor Service to carry out inspections of companies as regards their compliance with the labor legislation.

Relevant draft law No. 8045 was registered in Parliament Feb 15, the Ekonomichna Pravda online newspaper reported.

An explanatory note to the bill notes that the control bodies lost the right to unimpeded inspection of enterprises as a result of amendments to the law on basic principles of state supervision (control) in the sphere of economic activity of Nov 3, 2016.

It is also reported that the legalization of restrictions related to the labor law enforcement inspections does not allow for the proper and timely enforcement of such rights.

The purpose of the bill is to resume full state supervision, including at mines, and monitoring of compliance with labor and employment laws, labor protection regulations, and safety rules.
