Groysman stressed that the State Fiscal Service, as a party to the program, had failed to organize its implementation.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has said the government will discuss with the European partners the launch of a new border infrastructure development program after the European Commission moved to close down the previous one.
"New head of the State Fiscal Service, Myroslav Prodan, tried to fix the situation, but, considering the procedure and everything else, this turned out to be impossible. I emphasize we tried to save the program, but we failed. Therefore, a new program may come up, and we will discuss this with our European partners. On the other hand, we will continue upgrading border checkpoints anyway. We have such projects with Hungary, Poland and other countries," the prime minister said during his visit to Sumy.

"This program was launched in 2007 and completed in 2013. Then, at our request, it was extended. Unfortunately, the State Fiscal Service, which was party to the program, failed organize its implementation, but we were aware that it had almost been impossible to implement it," Groysman said.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the European Commission on February 22 confirmed the closure of the project on financing the modernization of six border checkpoints in western Ukraine. The program was designed to help integrate Ukraine's economy with neighboring EU countries by building or upgrading border posts at checkpoints with Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania. According to the EU, the projects were aimed at pacing up the border check routine and enhancing customs clearance procedures.
