Ukraine in January 2018 reduced the consumption of natural gas by 6.9% year-over-year (y-o-y), to 4.846 billion cubic meters (bcm).
Gas consumption in the first month of 2018 from December 2017 rose by 17.5%, the State Statistics Service said.

Over the period under review, the country also reduced the consumption of coal by 11.8% y-o-y, to 4.382 million tonnes.
Coal consumption in January 2018 from December 2017 grew by 7.8%.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine in 2017 reduced gas consumption by 6.3%, to 28.4 bcm, according to the state-run gas transport system operator Ukrtransgaz.
Production of thermal and coking coal in Ukraine in 2017 shrank by 14.6% against 2016, to 34.916 million tonnes.
Hostilities in the eastern regions of Ukraine have caused a significant shortage of coal, primarily that of thermal anthracite produced in militant-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
