PM Groysman: Ukraine reduces gas consumption by 6 bcm in past three years

Ukraine can reduce consumption by another 5 bcm by 2022.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman says that Ukraine has reduced gas consumption by 6 billion cubic meters (bcm) in the past three years.

"How much gas Ukraine consumed (households, municipally heating utilities, budget organizations): 24 bcm in 2014; 18 bcm in 2017. In the three years, we have reduced gas consumption by 6 bcm," he wrote on Facebook in a post titled "Energy Efficiency in Numbers."

"The forecast for 2022 is 13 bcm. That means Ukraine can reduce consumption by another 5 bcm," the prime minister said.

He also noted progress in the renewable energy sector. "4Q 2015: solar power systems were installed by 21 private households; 4Q 2017: solar power systems were installed by 3,010 private households. In 2014-2017: [there will be] 19 GW of new thermal capacity of renewable energy.

Groysman also reported that UAH 5 billion in 274,000 loans had been extended under the "Warm Credits" state program for households, which was launched in October 2014. About 400,000 households have joined the program.

"The state reimburses 20% of spending on new gas boilers (35% for those who are entitled to subsidies) and 35% on other measures (new windows, installation of meters, insulation)," the prime minister added.
