Ukraine's Justice Ministry has seized UAH 100 million, or US$3.85 million, from Russia's gas giant Gazprom in favor of the Ukrainian national budget.

"We have already recovered some of the funds – all Gazprom had in Ukrainian territory has been documented, seized and sent to the national budget. This is over UAH 100 million," Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko said, Deutsche Welle's Ukrainian-language service reported on Tuesday, March 20.

Under a Ukrainian court ruling, the Russian corporation was found guilty of violations on the Ukrainian energy market and was fined $6 billion.

Petrenko also stressed he would seek enforcement of the court's ruling in other countries with whom Kyiv has "relevant agreements."

As for a decision by a Stockholm arbitration court, which obliged Gazprom to pay Naftogaz $4.63 billion under a gas transit contract, Petrenko noted that Naftogaz was taking appropriate measures to recover the funds.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Naftogaz on February 28 received the final decision of the Stockholm Arbitration Tribunal ordering that Gazprom should pay Naftogaz $4.63 billion. The award means Gazprom has to make payments to Naftogaz in the order of $2.56 billion after residual payments for gas delivered in 2014 and 2015 have been settled.
