Ukrainians' spending on bad habits higher than that on leisure and entertainment

Over $5.56 billion was spent on alcohol and tobacco in Ukraine last year.

Ukrainians spend more money on bad habits than on health, education, clothes, leisure and entertainment.

Food accounts for the largest share of Ukrainians' spending, according to the TV news service TSN, which cited the State Statistics Service of Ukraine. It is 42.1% of all the expenses.

Spending on housing and utilities is the second biggest, followed by transportation fares.

The share of alcohol and tobacco costs is the fourth biggest – Ukrainians spent more than UAH 146 billion (US$5.56 billion) on them last year. This is higher than spending on health, clothing, household items, leisure and entertainment.

The statistics do not include reports from temporarily occupied areas in eastern Ukraine and Russian-occupied Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

As UNIAN reported, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Rozenko earlier said that the average monthly salary per capita in Ukraine in October-November 2018 might grow to UAH 10,000 (about US$380) from UAH 7,711 (about US$293) in January 2018.
