Coal output in Ukraine shrinks by almost 28% in Jan-Feb 2018

Production of thermal and coking coal in Ukraine shrank by 27.8% in January-February 2018 year-over-year (y-o-y), to 5.335 million tonnes.

In the first two months of 2018, all Ukrainian mines produced 1.066 million tonnes of coking coal and 4.268 million tonnes of thermal coal.

As UNIAN reported earlier, production of thermal and coking coal in Ukraine in 2017 shrank by 14.6% against 2016, to 34.916 million tonnes.

Hostilities in the eastern regions of Ukraine have caused a significant shortage of coal, primarily that of thermal anthracite produced in militant-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
