National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine has asked Kyivenergo electricity and heat supplier to switch off heating at the Naftogaz headquarters, urging Ukrainians to join the initiative to save energy resources.

"We asked Kyivenergo to turn off central heating at our office. We express full trust in the [Ukrainian] Hydrometeorological Center and remain calm, as well as save money and natural gas. Join us if you wish! (those whose plans differ, please, don't forget to sign additional agreements to get nominations and prolong the heating season, please)," the Naftogaz press service wrote on Facebook.

In response to a question from one of the netizens, the company said that consumers of centralized heating could apply to local authorities to complete the heating season in their apartment buildings.

As of March 31, Natural gas stocks in Ukraine's USFs gas stood at 7.681 bcm.

Russia's gas monopoly Gazprom has lost a lawsuit with NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine in the Stockholm Arbitration, which ruled Gazprom to pay $2.56 billion to the Ukrainian company. At first, Gazprom agreed to supply 0.5 bcm of gas to Ukraine in March at prices determined by the arbitration. However, on March 1, it suddenly refused to fulfill its contractual obligations and reduced the gas pressure at the entry point to Ukraine's GTS on the eastern border to a critical 50.6 kgf/sq.cm.

Naftogaz says Gazprom's failure to fulfill the court's decision has led to the gas shortage in the GTS. To overcome the crisis, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine imposed restrictions on domestic gas consumption, while Naftogaz went for an emergency purchase of 60 mcm of gas from Poland's PGNiG.
