Coal output in Ukraine shrinks by almost 20% in Jan-March 2018

Production of thermal and coking coal in Ukraine shrank by 19.5% in January-March 2018 year-over-year (y-o-y), from 10.349 million tonnes to 8.331 million tonnes.

In March 2018, coal production grew from 2.976 million tonnes to 2.996 million tonnes y-o-y, the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Ministry's press service said.

Hostilities in the eastern regions of Ukraine have caused a significant shortage of coal, primarily that of thermal anthracite produced in militant-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
