Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says local budgets within the decentralization reform accounted for more than 50% of the country's consolidated budget.

"For the first time in the history of Ukraine, if we take transfers to local budgets, more than 50% of the consolidated budget is local budgets," he said at a meeting on decentralization in Vinnytsa on April 5.

The president says that after the transfer of financial resources to communities they have the right to make local authorities accountable for real changes in Ukraine.

"If more than half of the money is allocated by the state for local budgets, the communities have the right to ask what is changing in the state. You do not need to go to Kyiv, you just need to ask your local deputies," Poroshenko said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's local budget revenue almost tripled from UAH 68.6 billion in 2014 to UAH 192.7 billion in 2017. The government expects local budget revenue will grow by 20% in 2018 to UAH 231 billion.
