Deputy PM Rozenko: State labor service inspects 7,159 employers, reveals 768 violations

The number of persons employed in the unofficial sector of Ukraine's economy shrank by almost 300,000 people in the nine months of 2017 year-over-year.

Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister Pavlo Rozenko says the State Labor Service in 2017 inspected 7,159 employers regarding payment of minimum wages, having revealed 768 violations.

"During the inspections, violations of the law on minimum wage compliance were detected with regard to 768 employees. Instructions for elimination of the revealed violations have been issued to heads of enterprises, institutions, and organizations, as well as protocols on administrative violation under Part 1 have been drawn up and filed with the court," Rozenko said at a meeting of the National Tripartite Social and Economic Council on April 5.

A substantial increase in minimum wages became one of the factors reducing shadow employment.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the International Labor Organization estimated the volume of shadow economy: its assessment shows that those employed within the shadow economy account for about 50% (around 5 million) of officially employed workers (about 10-12 million) in Ukraine. So, every third Ukrainian is working illegally.
