Ukraine’s central bank, the National Bank of Ukraine, has asked parliament to amend the Civil Code of Ukraine to prohibit the early withdrawal of fixed deposits, NBU Governor Valeria Gontareva has said live on Ukrainian television’s Channel 1 + 1.
"We have already prepared a bill for a meeting of the new Parliament on banning the early withdrawal of fixed deposits for a certain period of time,” Gontareva said.
She said investors would be able to choose between a smaller rate of interest for investing for a shorter period of time, or a larger rate over a long term.
"We have a great desire to make these changes to the Civil Code of Ukraine. In this case, the NBU will have no need to tighten the screws," Gontareva added.
