Ukraine's new light helicopter performs maiden flight (Photo, video)

The MSB-2 helicopter is an upgraded version of the Mi-2.

Ukraine's new light MSB-2 Nadiya helicopter, built by Zaporizhia-based JSC Motor Sich, made its maiden flight in the city of Zaporizhia on April 16.

The MSB-2, which is made of composite materials by 70%, is an upgraded version of the Mi-2 helicopter. Its fuel tank is installed outside the passenger compartment. The helicopter's trials will last for 12 months, the Zaporizhia news portal 061.ua reported.

By the end of 2018, Motor Sich plans to complete certification procedures for the new MSB-2 Nadiya civil helicopter, which was first showcased at the Ukrainian Championships of Helicopter Sports on August 19, 2017.

This is a multipurpose helicopter equipped with two turbocharged 450 hp engines. It may be used for freight and passenger transportation to remote and hard-to-reach areas, for rescue or medical aid missions.

The chopper has a seating capacity of up to seven people and its flying range is expected to be increased to 1,000 km, according to the ReporterUA news outlet.

UNIAN memo. JSC Motor Sich is one of Ukraine's major aerospace manufacturers. Its stapes include engines for the Mi-8/Mi-17 and Ka-226 helicopters, engines for the An-70, An-124, An-140, An-148, Yak-130 aircraft, as well as gas pumps and power generating sets.
