Ukraine businesses forecast hryvnia rate for coming year

Most Ukrainian CEOs (67.5%) forecast the hryvnia exchange rate against the U.S. dollar in the range of UAH 28-31 within the next 12 months.

The average exchange rate is expected at UAH 29.53 to the dollar, which is worse than the earlier projected rate at UAH 29.30 to the dollar, according to a central bank's survey of the country's business leaders in the first quarter (Q1) of 2018 to assess the Business Expectation Index published on the regulator website.

At the same time, the share of respondents expecting UAH weakening shrank from 88.5% to 86.3%.

Read alsoUkraine's large, medium-sized businesses post US$5.9 bln profit in 2017As the survey was conducted, the weighted average rate of the hryvnia in the interbank forex market stood at UAH 26.93 to the dollar, while its daily fluctuations did not exceed 5.2% of the average value.

UNIAN memo. Ukraine's national currency strengthened against the U.S. dollar by 5.4% in Q1 2018, according to the NBU official rate.

Rates of the Ukrainian hryvnia against the U.S. dollar on the interbank forex market by the middle of trading on Tuesday, April 17, were set at UAH 26.07/26.09 per dollar.

The state budget of Ukraine for 2018 assumes the average annual rate of hryvnia at the level of about UAH 29.3 to the dollar, while the rate at the year-end at about UAH 30.1/USD.

Hryvnia's historic low against the U.S. dollar was at UAH 30.01/USD in February 2015.
