Ukraine sees 0.3% decline in construction works in Q1

The construction of buildings over the period under review decreased by 0.2%, to UAH 10.7 billion ($407.3 million).

Ukraine's construction firms in January-March 2018 (the first quarter/Q1 2018) reduced construction works by 0.3% year-over-year (y-o-y), to UAH 18.296 billion (US$696.5 million).

The construction of buildings over the period under review decreased by 0.2%, to UAH 10.7 billion ($407.3 million). In particular, construction of residential buildings was down by 3.5%, to UAH 5.85 billion ($222.7 million), while construction of commercial buildings rose by 4.4%, to UAH 4.86 billion ($185 million). Moreover, construction of engineering facilities declined by 0.5%, to UAH 7.56 billion ($287.8 million), the State Statistics Service of Ukraine said.

Greenfield construction projects, reconstruction, and technical re-equipment in Q1 2018 accounted for 83.3% of total construction works, while the share of overhauls and maintenance repairs was 8.1% and 8.6%, respectively.

Construction firms in Kyiv alone reduced their operations by 0.7%, to UAH 4.83 billion ($183.9 million), over the period under review, accounting for 26.4% of the total construction works across the country.

The State Statistics Service said that the data excluded reports from temporarily occupied areas in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, as well as Russian-occupied Donbas in the east of Ukraine.
