Inflation in Ukraine slightly slows in April

Core inflation in Ukraine in April 2018 was 9.4% compared to April 2017.

Inflation in Ukraine in April 2018 compared to April 2017 slowed to 13.1% against 13.2% in March 2018 compared to March 2017.

Consumer prices in Ukraine in April 2018 increased by 0.8% compared to March 2018 and by 4.4% compared to December 2017, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine said on its website.

Prices of foods demonstrated the highest growth compared to April 2017: those of eggs rose by 93%, fruit by 32%, meat and meat products by 26.1%, and vegetables by 23.1%. In the service sector, the highest rise was demonstrated by tariffs on maintenance of residential buildings and adjacent territories: by 41.6%.

If compared to March 2018, prices of vegetables increased most: 5.4%. Prices of meat and meat products grew by 2.6%, alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 1.5%. Prices of clothing and footwear increased by 2.1%. In the service sector, passenger transportation by road showed the highest increase: 2.2%.

A decrease in prices in annual terms is recorded only for sugar. Prices of milk, eggs, fruits, sugar, fuel and oils fell compared to March 2018.

Core inflation in Ukraine in April 2018 was 9.4% compared to April 2017 and 0.6% compared to March 2018. It was 3.3% compared to December 2017.

The State Statistics Service says that the report does not include data from the occupied areas of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol and Donbas.

UNIAN memo. Inflation in Ukraine in March 2018 slowed to 13.2% year-over-year from 14% in February 2018.

The government of Ukraine predicts economic growth by 3% this year amid 9% inflation, while the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank expect GDP may grow by about 3.5% amid 10% inflation.
