Ukraine uses only 20% of EU's available financial support of reforms

Since 2014, the European Commission has provided Ukraine with EUR 3.4 billion in macro-financial assistance in the form of loans at low interest rates.

Ukraine has used only 20% of the available financial support provided by the European Union for reforms, which is about EUR1.4 billion.

"Some EUR 7 billion is available to Ukraine for the EU's support of reforms. A mere 20% of this amount has been used," head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Affairs Hanna Hopko said at the presentation of the European Union's External Investment Plan in Kyiv.

"There is a problem related to how the funds are used and how efficiently the money is spent," she said.

As UNIAN reported, the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs supported the decision to give Ukraine new Macro-Financial Assistance. In particular, 58 out of 61 MEPs who attended the meeting of the committee supported this decision.

Earlier, the European Commission invited the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament to launch a new program of macro-financial assistance in the amount of EUR 1 billion for Ukraine.
