Ukraine sees 31% rise in car imports in Q1

Germany was in the lead in terms of cars imported to Ukraine: 8,120 cars worth $81.3 million arrived from that country, including 7,171 cars with mileage.

Ukraine saw a 31% rise in imports of passenger cars in January-March 2018 (Q1) year-over-year (y-o-y), to 51,200 units.

Car imports in Q1 were estimated at US$665.7 million, the Ukrautoprom Association's press service said.

At the same time, the lion's share in the structure of car imports was comprised by passenger cars, which imports in Q1 grew by 43% y-o-y, to 41,522 units. In monetary terms, imports of passenger cars totaled $459.3 million.

Over the period under review, imports of used cars accounted for 57% ($128 million).

Germany was in the lead in terms of cars imported to Ukraine: 8,120 cars worth $81.3 million arrived from that country, including 7,171 cars with mileage.

The U.S. became the second supplier as it shipped 4,843 passenger cars worth $58.5 million to Ukraine, with the lion's share of used cars (4,177 units).

Japan ranked third with 3,891 cars ($67.6 million) imported to Ukraine, of which new cars accounted for two thirds.

France became fourth with 3,838 cars ($17.3 million). The share of used cars was 93%.

Mexico, which shipped 2,533 passenger cars to Ukraine with a total customs value of $19.7 million, became supplier number five. New cars accounted for the lion's share of imports from Mexico (63%)

UNIAN memo. Ukrainian Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association Ukrautoprom was created in 1997. Its founders include more than 20 leading Ukrainian enterprises of the automotive industry. Among them are Zaporizhia-based ZAZ Plc., Lviv-based bus manufacturer LAZ Plc., Kremenchuk-based truck manufacturer AutoKrAZ PJSC, and others.
