Ukraine, Romania to launch Chernivtsi-Suceava train early in 2019

Two pairs of trains will run between the cities.

Ukraine and Romania have agreed to launch a train between the Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi and the Romanian city of Suceava.

"As for passenger transportation by rail, the parties agreed on the introduction of two pairs of trains (4 trains) from January 1, 2019, which will link Suceava (Romania) and Chernivtsi (Ukraine) with a stop over at Vadul Siret Railway Station," the press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine said following talks between Ukrainian Deputy Minister for European Integration Viktor Dovhan and Secretary of State at Romania's Ministry of Transport Maria Magdalena Grigore.

They also agreed on the need to organize piggyback shipments across the territories of Ukraine and Romania and pledged to further promote their development.

"With regard to road transport, the parties agreed to increase the total quota of permits for international road transport for 2018-2019. In the near future, Ukrainian carriers will additionally receive 4,500 transit permits and 1,000 bilateral permits," the ministry added.
