Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on May 21 signed bill No. 5470-d into law to simplify rules for car imports into Ukraine, abolishing the verification of conformity of vehicles with environmental standards at border crossing points.

The document was signed with amendments to Article 2 of the law of Ukraine "On Certain Issues of Importation into the Customs Territory of Ukraine and Registration of Vehicles," where the wording "passage to the customs territory of Ukraine" was replaced by "customs clearance."

This eliminates the need to submit environmental certificates for imported cars at border crossing points and during state registration.

However, such a certificate must still be provided at the internal customs.

The law was signed taking into account the amendment by Chairperson of the parliament's tax and customs policy committee Nina Yuzhanina. She also proposed making an exception for ambulance cars, special purpose vehicles, and mobile medical clinics that do not comply with the current environmental standards and imported into the Ukrainian territory as humanitarian aid.
