Ukraine sees retail trade grow to US$10.9 bln in Jan-April

Retail turnover increased most in Vinnytsia region.

Retail trade in Ukraine grew by 7% in January-April 2018 year-over-year (y-o-y) in comparable prices, to UAH 283.308 billion (US$10.9 billion).

However, the Ukrainian State Statistics Service has not provided statistics in monetary terms before.

At the same time, last year the agency reported that in January-April 2017 retail turnover amounted to UAH 226.7 billion ($8.7 billion), which was 24.9% down against 2018.

According to the statistics service, comparing data from the relevant periods of the previous year would not be correct, as the 2018 price index has been taken into account and the previous period figures may be updated according to the quarterly report.

Retail turnover increased most in Vinnytsia region (by 11.1%, to UAH 7.63 billion), Zakarpattia region (by 9.2%, to UAH 6.656 billion), Sumy region (by 8.9%, to UAH 5.755 billion), Cherkasy region (by 8.8%, to UAH 6.819 billion), and Chernihiv region (by 8.7%, to UAH 5.587 billion).

The growth of retail trade over the period under review slowed most in Chernivtsi and Rivne regions (by 3.3%, to UAH 4.462 billion and by 2.6%, to UAH 5.085 billion, respectively). At the same time, none of the regions posted decline in retail trade.

Turnover of enterprises involved in retail trade in January-April 2018 was estimated at UAH 204.149 billion, or $7.8 billion, which was 7% up y-o-y.

As UNIAN reported earlier, retail trade in Ukraine increased by 8.8% in comparable prices in 2017 from 2016, to UAH 816.553 billion ($31.3 billion).
