Zaporizhia NPP's power unit 2 disconnected for repairs

The reactor facility is in a state of 'hot shutdown mode.'

Zaporizhia nuclear power plant (NPP), which is part state-run enterprise Energoatom, has disconnected its power unit No. 2 from the network for repairs within two days.

"At 00:03 on May 23, 2018, unit No. 2 of Zaporizhia NPP was disconnected from the grid for repairs until 23:59, May 24, 2018. The reactor facility is in a state of 'hot shutdown mode,'" the company's press service said in a statement.

According to the report, three power units are now operating at Zaporizhia NPP. A total capacity of generators is 2.91 GW. There are no comments on the work of the main equipment and personnel.

It is also reported the radiation background near Zaporizhia NPP and its sanitary protection zone (with a radius of 2.5 km) is 8-12 microns per hour, which corresponds to the natural radiation background.

Its first power unit was commissioned in 1984, second – in 1985, third – in 1986, fourth – in 1987, fifth – in 1989, and sixth – in 1995. Since 1984, its contribution to the country's energy sector has increased from 2 to 22%.
