According to Poroshenko, when the Bulgarian prime minister visited Ukraine, necessary instructions were issued under a project for the construction of an international highway not only along the Odesa-Reni route, but also through Romania and Bulgaria, in order to link the three countries.

"We have several possible locations to build a bridge across the Danube. We're about to start the development of necessary blueprints and approvals with our Romanian and Bulgarian partners. I am sure that this is the right direction. Movement to Europe," he said.

The bridge crossing across the M15 Odesa-Reni motorway near Palanka is 152.36 meters long. It was built from December 2016 to May 2018. The construction cost UAH 112.4 million, or US$4.3 million. This included budget funds, loan borrowed by Ukravtodor against government guarantees, and funds from excess customs revenue.

The bridge is of strategic importance for Odesa region, as it connects the southern part of the region (Bessarabia), nine districts, and also the large cities (Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky, Izmail, Tatarbunary, Reni, Bolhrad, Vilkovo, Kiliya) through the Dniester River floodplain with the regional center and the capital. The old bridge was built in 1960, it was 145.3 meters long and 8.98 meters wide.
