Turkey expects a discount on the price it pays for Russian gas received from Russian gas company Gazprom through the Blue Stream trans-Black Sea gas pipeline, Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yıldız said on Wednesday after a meeting of the Russian-Turkish Intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic cooperation, according to international news agency Reuters.
"We expect that Russian gas company Gazprom will present us its offer under market conditions, and it will be a new contract,” Yıldız said.
“We believe Gazprom will come to an agreement with us on the gas price," he told journalists, and added that the parties were still discussing the discount.
As reported earlier, Turkey said it would increase its purchases of Russian gas, supplied through the Blue Stream trans-Black Sea gas pipeline, up to 19 billion cubic meters in 2015, compared to the current 16 billion cubic meters.
"The share of gas consumption in Turkey’s power generation is expected to be 45% in 2014, compared to 43% in 2013," he added.
