Ukraine's NEURC elects new Chairperson

For the first time in Ukraine's history, NEURC members were selected on a competitive basis.

Newly elected members of the National Energy and Utilities Regulation Commission (NEURC) of Ukraine on June 6 elected a new Chairperson of the NEURC Oksana Kryvenko, a former staffer at the Commission.

"Oksana Kryvenko was elected a new chairperson of the NEURC," energy expert, head of the Association of Consumers of Energy and Public Utilities Andriy Gerus wrote on Facebook.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on May 31, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko appointed five new NEURC members.

The commission now includes: Oleksandr Farmagei (worked for Ukrhydroenergo), Dmytro Kovalenko (Ukrenergo), Yevhen Mahlovannyi (the State Agency Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine), Olena Antonova (DTEK, American company AES) and Oksana Kryvenko (an employee at the NEURC).

For the first time in Ukraine's history, NEURC members were selected as a result of the competition, since earlier they were selected and appointed by the president.

The competitive commission is also holding the second competition to select four more commission members. The latest contest was blocked by Anton Gudachenko, a failed applicant to the NEURC who was an acting adviser to former NEURC head Dmytro Vovk.
