The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) in May transferred UAH 17 billion (US$649.8 million) in two tranches as part of its profit for 2017 to the state budget.

Since the beginning of the year, the regulator has already transferred UAH 32 billion ($1.2 billion) to the national budget out of UAH 44.6 billion ($1.7 billion) planned in 2018, the NBU press service said.

The remaining amount will be channeled to the budget in 2018 according to the schedule agreed with the Finance Ministry.

"Such tranches are designed to smooth the impact of changes in the amount of government funds on fluctuations in the banking system's liquidity and contribute to meeting the NBU's inflation benchmarks," the regulator said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the NBU Council approved the distribution of the regulator's profit for 2017 with UAH 44.6 billion to be transferred to Ukraine's state budget in 2018.

The national budget of Ukraine for 2018 assumes the transfer of UAH 50.5 billion ($1.9 billion) from the NBU's profit for 2017 to the public coffers.

The central bank in 2017 transferred UAH 44.4 billion ($1.7 billion) in profit for 2016 to the state budget.
