Ukraine sees surplus of balance of payments in May

The current account balance was close to zero.

The surplus of Ukraine's balance of payments in May 2018 was estimated at US$266 million.

As was the case last year, the country's current account balance was close to zero, the National Bank of Ukraine said on its website.

However, it did not share information about the balance of payments for the period from January to May 2018, neither did it provide data for comparison with similar periods of 2017.

The NBU said that the current account deficit for January-May 2018 expanded to US$415 million from US$308 million in the same period of 2017.

Net capital inflow on the financial account in May 2018 stood at US$307 million, foreign direct investment amounted to US$150 million, it said.

As UNIAN reported, Ukraine posted US$2.566 billion in the surplus of the balance of payments in 2017, which was twice the surplus posted in 2016. The result was positive for the third year in a row.
