Housing in Ukraine expands by 0.7% in 2017

There were a total of 17 million apartments in the country as of January 1, 2018.

Housing in Ukraine in 2017 expanded by 0.7%, to 984.8 million square meters.

At the same time, urban settlements accounted for 60.9% (599.4 million square meters) of the housing, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine said.

Residential apartment buildings accounted for 98.4%, while the share of dormitories and residential premises in non-residential buildings was 1.6%, it added.

The number of apartments as of January 1, 2018, totaled 17 million. One-room apartments accounted for 19.5%, while the share of two-room apartments was 36.6%, that of three-room apartments was 32.6% and four-room apartments and more accounted for 11.3%.

As UNIAN reported earlier, housing in Ukraine in 2016 increased by 0.4%, to 977.9 million square meters. At the same time, the share of urban settlements was 60.7% (594 million square meters) of the total housing.

UNIAN memo. Housing is the number of buildings and facilities used for accommodation, with related auxiliary premises. Housing units are residential building, living quarters, total living area, and space for living. Residential buildings are permanent-type construction facilities, the living area of which is accounting for over 50%.
