Ukrainian Member of Parliament Vitaliy Kupriy says the energy industry in Ukraine is now in crisis, and the government may resort to reducing other industries' funding to finance the energy sector.

"They have brought [the industry] to a ridiculously critical condition and say: Now let's seek loans from the International Monetary Fund. They have plundered everything at the local level, and are now going to beg in the West. Now, road repairs may be halted as an austerity measure and the [country's] health care may receive less finding. The situation is difficult," he told TV Channel 112 Ukraine on July 4.

"I definitely believe that there are internal reserves. And if we stop some negative trends, we can support the development of the industry within the existing financing," the MP added.

Kupriy also claims Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Ihor Nasalyk is not able to bring the energy sector out of the crisis.

"The minister cannot offer a normal program to the public, cannot explain to coal miners what is happening and where we are moving... Nasalyk is not able to bring the industry out of the crisis today or in future," he summed up.
