Poroshenko called on interlocutors to reach a compromise.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says he is categorically against the cuts of rural branch offices by PJSC Ukrposhta, Ukraine's state-owned postal services provider, as well as the company's intention to halt pension payment services.

"I support the contempt of those residing in rural areas over the statement of Ukrposhta on cutting the number of its offices in villages and their intention to stop paying pensions. I consider this categorically unacceptable!" he wrote on Facebook, following a meeting with Social Policy Minister Andriy Reva, Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan, Ukrposhta's CEO Igor Smelyansky and Chairman of the Pension Fund Oleksiy Zarudniy.

According to the president, state enterprises must perform certain social functions.

"I will be happy to support any initiatives that increase the efficiency of state enterprises, but I consider it unacceptable when they take the last penny out of the pensioners' pockets," he said.

Poroshenko called on interlocutors to find a compromise – "another model that will be put into effect by a government decision, but for now, the system will work for the population in its usual mode."
