The radiation background at the RNPP and the adjacent area has not changed.
The capacity of power unit No. 2 at Rivne Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) in Ukraine's Rivne region has been automatically lowered to 54% of the rated capacity (440 MW) due to disconnection of turbo generator No. 4 (TG-4) by the electric protection system for unknown reasons.

The incident was reported at 17:09 Kyiv time on July 16, the RNPP's press service reported.
Preliminary assessment of the event according to the International Nuclear Event Scale (INES) is beyond the scale.
Two power units of the RNPP with a total capacity of 611 MW were operating as of 9:30 on July 17, the report said.
Scheduled maintenance repairs are under way at units Nos. 3 and 4.
The equipment of the operating power units and personnel are working in the normal mode, it said.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the RNPP disconnected power unit No. 4 on July 8.
The radiation, fire-prevention and ecological background at the RNPP and the adjacent area has not changed being within the limits of the established norms.

The plant operates four power units with a total capacity of 2.835 GW: unit No. 1 (VVER-440) with a capacity of 420 MW since 1980, unit No. 2 (VVER-440) of 415 MW since 1981, unit No. 3 (VVER-1000) of 1 GW since 1986, and unit No. 4 (VVER-1000) of 1 GW since 2004.
