Ukraine's Antonov, Switzerland's AIR-ION sign Memorandum of Understanding to produce UAVs

A UAV serial production line is to be installed at the Ukrainian enterprise.

Kyiv-based state-owned Antonov and Swiss-based AIR-ION TECHNOLOGIES SA have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which provides for partnership in the development of electric unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) based on a modular platform developed by the Swiss company.

"We have tentatively agreed on the production of four types of UAVs with a maximum take-off weight of 1,500 kilograms and a cruising speed of 185 kilometers per hour. The document provides for several phases of cooperation. In the first stage, the partners will research world technologies and the market for the use of electric UAVs as air taxis, as well as hybrid UAVs for other civilian and military purposes," the Ukrainian company's press service reported amid the 2018 Farnborough International Airshow, which is held in the UK on July 16-22.

In particular, Antonov will participate in the development of the airframe for the UAVs, the manufacture of prototypes, as well as their testing and certification. Moreover, a UAV serial production line is to be installed at the Ukrainian enterprise.

After the signing of the memorandum, the Ukrainian enterprise has become part of the international partnership system formed by AIR-ION TECHNOLOGIES SA, which includes leading companies and research institutes from the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Italy, France, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, the press service added.
