Ukrainian farmers thresh almost 17 mln tonnes of grains

As of July 18, Ukrainian agrarians harvested 16.7 million tonnes of grains from the area of 5.34 million hectares, the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food reports.

In particular, the farmers harvested 12.5 million tonnes of winter wheat on the area of 3.8 million hectares, or 60% to the forecast; 23,700 tonnes of spring wheat on the area of 10,000 hectares, or 5% to the forecast; and 855,400 tonnes of spring barley on the area of 440,500 hectares, or 29% to the forecast; 465,000 tonnes of peas on the area of 287,000 hectares, or 68% to the forecast.

The average yield of cereals is at 31.3 c/ha.

In addition, harvesting of winter rape is underway. Some 2 million tonnes of rape has been threshed on the area of 822,000 hectares (84% to the forecast) with a yield of 25.4 c/ha. Also, 8,700 tonnes of spring rape was threshed from 5,000 hectares (9%) with a yield of 17.1 c/ha.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the ministry retained the forecast for grain crops in 2018-2019 MY at 60 million tonnes.

According to the State Statistics Service, the harvest of grains and leguminous crops in Ukraine in 2017 decreased by 7.3% compared to 2016, amounting to 61.3 million tonnes.
