Over 360,000 citizens of Ukraine have left their country since March 2018 to work abroad.

This has been reported by TV Channel 5 with reference to the UkrainianPeopleLeaks platform, which is an online count tool used to estimate migrant workers leaving Ukraine.

The platform was launched on March 20, 2018.

Two Ukrainians leave their country every minute in search of a better life, the platform says, referring to Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Pavlo Klimkin's words.

Ukrainian economist Oleh Ustenko says that the main reason why Ukrainians seek jobs outside their country is the weak economy of Ukraine.

"Whatever they say – the economy must get better in the country to stop the migration. To improve the economy in the country means at least a change in GDP, which is now $2,000 [nominal gross domestic product per capita]. Try to raise it to the level that exists in Romania, for example, which is one of the poorest European countries," he said.

According to UN forecasts, cited by the platform, Ukraine's population might shrink by 18% by 2050, to 36 million people because of labor migration and other factors.
