Ukraine sees retail trade grow to US$16.2 bln in Jan-June

Retail turnover increased most in Luhansk region.

Retail trade in Ukraine grew by 6.2% in January-June 2018 year-over-year (y-o-y) in comparable prices, to UAH 428.999 billion (US$16.2 billion).

However, the Ukrainian State Statistics Service has not provided statistics in monetary terms before.

At the same time, last year the agency reported that in January-June 2017 retail turnover amounted to UAH 362.6 billion ($13.7 billion), which was 15.5% down against 2018.

According to the statistics agency, comparing data from the relevant periods of the previous year would not be correct, as the 2018 price index has been taken into account while the previous period figures may be updated according to the quarterly report.

Retail turnover increased most in Luhansk region (by 24%, to UAH 3.695 billion), Poltava region (by 10.4%, to UAH 14 billion), Donetsk region (by 10.3%, to UAH 12.74 billion), and Zakarpattia region (by 10.2%, to UAH 10.14 billion).

The growth of retail trade over the period under review slowed most in Chernivtsi and Kharkiv regions (by 0.7%, to UAH 6.63 billion and by 2.1%, to UAH 34 billion, respectively). At the same time, none of the regions posted decline in retail trade.

Turnover of enterprises involved in retail trade in January-May 2018 was estimated at UAH 308.463 billion, or $11.7 billion, which was 5.7% up y-o-y.

As UNIAN reported earlier, retail trade in Ukraine increased by 8.8% in comparable prices in 2017 from 2016, to UAH 816.553 billion ($30.9 billion).
